Stinky Boxing Gloves? Here's how to get rid of them!

Every martial artist knows exactly what smell we are talking about. You walk into a boxing school and that typical, pungent smell hits you right away. And it can also be the case that hours after training, you can still smell that musty odor on your hands, even after washing them several times!

Sweat and moisture are the culprits of these odors in your boxing gloves and unfortunately cannot be avoided during a good boxing workout. But admit it, that sweat does make you feel like you gave it your all!

Stinky Boxing Gloves? This is the Solution!

Fortunately, there are ways to combat those nasty odors in your boxing gloves. We've listed 3 tips for you, so you can train fresh again:

The First Line of Defense: Always Hand Wraps!

Always Wear Hand Wraps, also known as hand wraps, during your boxing training. Hand Wraps absorb sweat and prevent direct contact with the inside of your boxing gloves. Be sure to wash out the Hand Wraps after each workout at a minimum of 40 deg, preferably in a laundry bag. This will remove all bacteria and make them smell fresh again for your next workout.

Let Your Boxing Gloves Breathe

After training, air your boxing gloves well in a dry place. Make sure the opening of the glove is wide open, so that most of the moisture can evaporate directly from the glove.

The Power of Moisturizers with Charcoal

When you have allowed the boxing gloves to air for a few hours, it's time to put moisture absorbers in the gloves. Use moisture absorbers with charcoal, such as the Hypest moisture absorbers. Charcoal naturally absorbs moisture, doesn't smell, and neutralizes unpleasant odors. The Hypest Moisture Absorbers also leave behind a wonderful lavender scent, making your boxing gloves smell completely fresh again!

Invest in Quality: Leather Boxing Gloves

In addition to the above tips, the quality of your boxing gloves also helps prevent unpleasant odors. Choose leather gloves rather than artificial leather (PU or vegan) gloves. Leather breathes better and is more durable. Remember to replace your boxing gloves every few years, depending on how often and how intensely you train.
